1. Omaha just won 108 games this past year, + the World Series.
2. Omaha really only loses 1 free agent of value this offseason, Gerald Lewis.
3. They already have their replacement for Lewis: Dan Parker. In
many ways, Parker looks pretty similar to Lewis. Just to simplify
things, let's stipulate that the two players are equals. To get
Parker, Omaha didn't have to give up anyone who contributed to their
1994 team. (They gave up Oyama, but Oyama didn't contribute in any way
in 1994, so he's not a loss to that 108 win team.)
4. And yet, Omaha has $20M to spend this offseason. They could
conceivably sign Kevin Morris + Vincent Carter, say. Or Tom Campbell +
Dan Dawson. In short, they could sign two upper-tier, elite free
agents.
5. Summing up: the Omaha 1994 team was dominant. And they didn't
lose anyone (assumption: Lewis = Parker, so Lewis doesn't count as
losing someone). And yet, they get to add two superstars.
6. Conclusion: Omaha could really be loaded for 1995.
